I just posted the first page of chapter 0 on DeviantArt. I'd like comments on the logo and art as well as any other comments preferably on DeviantArt if possible.

This page was my personal feelings about the negative hype for 4E that near instantaneously dissolved once people actually saw the real product rather than reading rumors online.

anyhoo, to your comic--

  • stylish style. I can't expound on that.

  • work on your expressions. can't expound on that either.

  • variance will not kill you. I almost thought that the pictures were, in fact, four copies of the same picture. This means that you're very consistent. good in some ways, not good in others. meh. I don't have problems with you reusing images, as long as you are sneaky about it. Dan Shive sneaky. to obscure a reference for you? too bad! (He's the author of this extremely odd webcomic that convinced me I needed emergency procedures should I accidentally duplicate myself. He reused a lot of images in the earliest versions of his comic, something I didn't realize until it was pointed out to me. even then, I had to look closely. Oh, and I think he dislikes D&D4, or at least the speed at which it was released.)

  • consider using something like Comic Genesis if you're serious about this and are going to update regularly, I think it'll be worth it.

  • ok, I've got nothing else to say. having five bullets makes me feel important.

that is a real spoier for a real thing that you may not want to know of (that is, if you own or will own yet haven't beaten Valve's game Portal). it's not like, to make you lose... uh... I'll stop now.

Thanks for the comic. It was also pointed out to me that I had a typo (which I will fix soon).

I'd like to point out that this was just a trial to see if the art and logo was fine.

Astropirate also pointed out that comics must be funny and have some type of stupid gag in every page. I do not intend to follow his advice. I want to make something that is funny (even when one does not understand the references) but also concentrate on the epic storyline.

I will be redoing this later, however, I'd like to ask whether everyone would rather me write and illustrated novel of the Warriors of the Wheel similar to that of the Endgames story at the end of Megatokyo Vol. 2 (which I could easily do) or continue pursuing the idea of an epic webcomic (which I could also do).

Please note, I am not a writer nor an artist. I am just trying to chronicle me D&D experience in a format which other would find appealing enough to read.

I dunno, I just find that copy paste comics aren't really that interesting. Look at pvponline.com. http://pxcomic.com/. http://www.thezombiehunters.com/ or http://redwhotape.brinkster.net/. None of them are copy-paste comics and yet provide interesting characters and storylines. None of them, except for pvponline (not so much anymore) reference outside sources for jokes. Just keep that in mind. You don't have to be referential in humor or story; just do your own thing. It often works out better that way.

When you use referential humor and storylines, you end up sounding like a rip-off of Penny-Arcade or gamer comics. Yeah, I know sometimes you think you're jokes are not like theirs, but THEY ARE (but usually not as funny :P).

Go read something besides manga every so often. It certainly helps get your creative juices up. Mmmm... brain juice...

A list of comics you might want to look at for inspiration:
Hellboy
Panda Express
Flight
The Walking Dead
Tech-Jacket

yup. peace out.

I semi-object to that. I believe that what really matters in image reuses is two things: the focus and the lineart.

what i mean is this: check out this EGS panel. if you read it in a perfectly logical manner, you'll probably have been focusing on the drawings of Sarah in the first two panels, and Elliot in the last two. So really, most people just reading once through won't be looking hard at Elliot in the first two panels (all they need to see is generic shock). the image reuse doesn't matter as much. it's a different story here, being that the readers will be drawn to Tedd's smile as a point of humor, so the image reuse is quite obvious in the last two panels.

and lineart. this is a horrible example, but remember the human eye is lazy. the more complex an object is, the less likely they are to see it's being reused if the areas around it are different.

so, in summary, use discretion when reusing. also keep in mind that when panels look really similar, you should either consider reusing or redrawing either for ease or so they're not too much the same (respectively)

i rest my case with this, which will eventually get colorized and awesomed-up. (hums "paint it, black")

do these people exist in real life? nah, that would be just wild speculation! I mean, I don't know anyone with a goatee and ponytail.

I'll keep that all in mind. I am completely reworking the design of the characters into something much more simplistic.

Nice coloring, Mephiles.
