Battlestar Galactica Mmog short description of project This game is going to be based on the Super Awsome tv show Battlestar Galactica. I have allways wanted to work on this project but It wasnt possible becouse i didnt have enough experiance programing. I am proposing that we take this on! it will hope fully be very fun and i am hopeing, will inrich us all by learning from each other. I have been thinking allot and i was thinking we should do some thing no one has ever done befor, We are going to make this a directx10 Game for pc. if you are unfamiliar with the show, i suggest you got to youtube and look it up. I am sure you will fall in love with it. Now i am sure you are all going to say "so wat is new…….." "Whats so special about this?" Well what i am going for is a game That is meant to be played online. If you watch the video that i have posted below you will see that no game has ever been made like this. This is going to be online play on crack. I mean i am thinking of having around 150-200 people on each server and dog fighting like crazy. I also don't intend on making a game that is only one kind: Jet fighting. So to equal it out, I was thinking that we could also fight on the ground. have maps that are on the ground just like the show. That is what is going to make make this game special, Huge amounts of players on each servers with kick ass graphics and physics. We already have allot of our work done for us. Things such as coming up with characters, maps, weapons, ships, sound effects, Battle strategies things like that… Viper(Good Guys) ![]() Raider(Guess....) ![]() . This Is a really great video that shows what kind of ships and weapons the show has. It also shows the kind of war fare they wage. just would be necessary to know if you are interested in helping with the game. ![]() |

Use good grammar and spelling, otherwise you'll look like a "pwn3d n00bz0rz". Now, we here promote Open-Source and we do not use DirectX10. That is Vista-only. if we do undertake this project, it will be made in Blender and CrystalSpace and utilize OpenGL. DirectX is "fast' but ugly. It is also horribly proprietary. Now think, do you want to make a game like this? We are developing other games at the moment and you really haven't excited me into making a game like this. Modern computers would have a hard time handling the graphics and 150-200 players would kill my internet connection. Why don't you contribute to another project and learn a bit first. Then you will be able to rethink your idea for this game. Again, use good grammar and spelling. |

Mmhmm... Pengy. Back off for a sec. Astropirate: You have ambition. We all like ambition, but without the proper skills, we can't follow through. It takes time to make games. Much longer than a couple months. Now, the game you want to make is humongous. Unfortunately, not even the pros could do something like that without a lot of help. So if you want to make a game, start with the basics. You already have a good idea (dogfighting spaceships) that's easy to do. Why don't you just make it smaller. What you're asking for is huge. It just needs to be cut down. A lot. No MMOs or anything like that too. That would add months, even years to the production deadlines. So keep on working on your skills (3d modelling and the such) and show us some work. We'll be happy to help on smaller projects, but we can't do it alone. You need to be involved too. It's your game isn;t it? (Pengy: Back off on the grammar. Honestly, it doesn't matter that much.) |

You forgot to mention that the *actual* BattleStar Galactica people would sue the crap out of y'all, not to mention the guys Astro stole 3d models from, Techy. |

Yah. That too. You gotta make your own source material. That really isn't too hard if your mind is constantly in overdrive. |

you goals for this seem quixotic, but I'm not really in a position to criticize. Yeah. I'm just gonna say good luck. If you think hard about this and stick to it, it may actually pay off. |

The companion cube will not threaten to stab you. The cake is a lie. Spoiler: click to toggle that is a real spoier for a real thing that you may not want to know of (that is, if you own or will own yet haven't beaten Valve's game Portal). it's not like, to make you lose... uh... I'll stop now.

First of all, grammar is important. When someone accidentally makes a grammatical mistake every once in a while, it is fine. When someone abuses grammar and spelling on a regular basis, it makes that person look like rude unintelligent idiot. Anyway, the reason so annoyed about this is because he does not realize that there are limits and that he is trying to take over bluedevs and force everyone into one project. |

I wasn't insulting his person, just making a slightly nostalgic reference to Meowtie. hat makes me wonder... Should I make a Meowtie theme for the board? I probably should... |

I gotta say 2 things. LOL Direct x is not only for Vesta it is allso for XP. And no 150-200 players connected to the same server wont kill your internet. i had dsl and played Eve online. and eve online has millions of people on it. Second thing. Come now techwizard, do you really care about my gramer? does it really bother you that much? No making gramer mistakes arent idiotic mistacks it jsut means that i really dont care about it. if i know wat i am writing and you know........ then what is the problem. GET A LIFE!!!!! lol i havent heard you call me an idiot in person TechWizrd. Edited by BobTheFerret, Jan 17 2008, 09:21 PM.

Grammar left that way for purposes of decent ridiculing. "Direct x is not only for Vesta it is allso for XP." I think you meant Vespa, not Vesta. You do know what a Vespa is, don't you? Keep in mind that there is only one letter difference between what you wrote, Vesta, and Vespa, which is the same difference between that and Vista. And there's also "allso". And you didn't capitalize "X". It should be like this: "Direct X is not only available for Vista but XP as well." Now, to refute your logical position, Direct X is NOT available on non-Windows OSs like Mac OS X or Linux, or on non-XBox game consoles like the PS3 or Wii. "And no 150-200 players connected to the same server wont kill your internet. i had dsl and played Eve online. and eve online has millions of people on it." should be "And, no, 150 to 200 players connected to the same server won't kill your Internet. I had DSL and played Eve Online, and Eve Online has millions of people on it.", and to refute the logical position, you and the other million players were not connected to your computer, but rather to Eve's server. What TechWizrd was referring to as "killing his internet" was other people connecting to a server in his house - and, I assure you, not only would your internet connection not last long hosting Eve Online, but you'd soon find that your ISP would disconnect you for violation of the AUP. "Second thing. Come now techwizard, do you really care about my gramer? does it really bother you that much? No making gramer mistakes arent idiotic mistacks it jsut means that i really dont care about it. if i know wat i am writing and you know........ then what is the problem. GET A LIFE!!!!! lol i havent heard you call me an idiot in person TechWizrd." I think the fact that it should be (and, yes, I know "Second thing." is really a fragment and not proper grammar; however, that's the sort of thing I don't mind.) "Second thing. Come now, TechWizrd, do you really care about my grammar? Does it really bother you that much? No, grammar mistakes aren't idiotic; it just means that I don't really care about it. If you and I understand what is written, what is the problem? Get a life! I've never heard you call me an idiot in person, TechWizrd." is sufficient proof negative of your assertions. Particularly the misspelling of 'mistakes'. At least you got 'idiotic' right. But, enough of the insults here; juvenile behavior will result in BAN!nage. (And, yes, I know that "BAN!nage" is a very odd portmanteau. I like it that way.) Edited by BobTheFerret, Jan 17 2008, 09:34 PM.

Heheh... Seriously... What bob said was true. Juvenile behavior will result in warns. (Not bans tho. Bob is kinda trigger happy with his Banzooka.) I like the battlestar galactica concept, but other than that, this project is pretty damn undoable. (Yes I used damn. Get over it.) |

It is fine to use damn. When people use certain four-letter words starting with 'F' or similarly vulgar words, I get annoyed. Anyway, Ferret is completely right. BTW, I am not going to skewer Meowtie, just do him justice with a nice skin... |

150 - 200 players? Good luck spending all your money on giant servers. Oh, and spend the rest of your life coding, because games like that are made by professional companies with lots of money. Oh, and most of them went to college probably. What you need is a gigantic building with a million people to program and release it. Anyway, it would have to be REALLY GOOD for 150 - 200 players to always be playing it. Bye, Slurpee Edited by slurpee123abc, Jul 8 2009, 11:59 AM.
